I don't really wear jeans and so I live in tights. I buy more expensive, thicker, higher quality tights. To preserve their life, I must wash them a certain way. The washing machine will do damage to your tights. Most of all it makes the nylon thinner, less stretchy, and fades the color. I've kept tights for years at a time and I do so, by washing them properly.
Step 1: Turn them inside out
Step 2: Fill a sink with warm water and a small amount of detergent.
Note: Do NOT use hot water it causes shrinkage.
Step 3: Immerse the tights in the water and scrub them with the detergent. Pay particular attention to feet, panty area, and any stains.
Note: I merely used my hands to scrub and immerse. Feel free to use a tool of some sort, but be careful.
Step 4: Rinse completely until there is no detergent left on the tights.
Step 5: Roll the tights up and squeeze all the excess water out.
Step 6: Lay the tights out (no more than three) on a towel. Close the towel and press on the tights to remove excess water.
Step 7: Open the towel and allow tights to dry. Dry time varies.
Do not to hang dry the tights. Hanging tights will stretch them out.
Be sure to buy high quality tights. Cheap tights are, well, cheap! The nicer the tights and the better you care for them the longer they will last and the more colorful they will stay.

This is a very useful post! Truth.. sometimes I wear jeans even though I'd rather wear a skirt because I know I'll have to handwash tights. It's not even that bad but for some reason.. I dread it.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jessica. I wash mine in the washer with all of my other clothes and hang them dry from a rod above the washer and dryer. bad news bears.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips Jessica! I always ruin my tights :( haha I love those yellow ones (I think you are wearing them? just guessing) the color is sweet!
